Experts & Scholars

Mohammad Attebai

Sometimes we need a guide from within the culture to help us open the doors the film puts in front of us. We are lucky when we have one who is not only knowledgeable but  also clearly communicates in a manner that we find enjoyable. We are in luck.

The scholars and experts selected to be our guides as we journey through the 24 film selections are bright, humble and willing to share their expertise with us before we see the film as well as afterward.  Here’s what they will do as your personal guide:

  1. They will participate in a panel discussion that will give us an overview of the project. They will expand on each of the four themes, discussing in general ways how each film relates to the theme. The panel discussion will become a videocast on the site  and available for you to click and see after March 10.
  2. They will introduce each film, putting it in its proper cultural context and pointing out cultural nuances that you might miss if you didn’t have a guide. These video introductions will become available online by March 10.
  3. They will also moderate your online discussions. So if you have questions or comments about the film, they will be available to reply to you.
